The Last Olympian by Rick Riordan This is a story about sixteen year old Percy Jackson and an army of young demigods that need to stop the Lord of Time in the streets of Manhattan. For use in the classroom, students could look at the many themes within the book. Themes throughout this book include: courage, bravery, evil, luck, death, war, virtue versus vice, friendship, etc...The Last Olympian could also be used to look at Greek mythology. Since Percy is the son of a Greek god, this book contains many other Greek gods and myths. This could be used to compare and contrast to Greek or even Roman myths. Students could even rewrite the story to match Roman gods instead of Greek gods.
